They will perform routine and special cleaning of facilities and buildings to ensure they are clean, sanitary and in orderly condition. In addition, the custodian will support campus events in other areas of the campus outside of there assign area. Essential Functions 30%
  • Performs custodial duties in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and vacuuming floors and carpets; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, locker rooms, and equipment; emptying trash and recycling containers; dusting, polishing, and waxing furniture and fixtures; and cleaning whiteboards and display boards.
Assignments may include both interior and exterior facilities. 30%
  • Cleans public areas inside and outside of facilities, including sweeping, blowing, and collecting/disposal of litter and debris. Responds to service requests and facility user concerns related to cleanliness and facility conditions. 20%
  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed to perform custodial services, including carpet, upholstery, and drapery cleaning, as well as floor stripping and waxing. 20%
  • Maintains tools and equipment in clean and safe working condition and reports concerns or deficiencies to supervisor. 10%
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Desired Qualifications 1. 1-2 years of custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience in a commercial, educational, healthcare, or industrial setting. 2. Demonstrated ability to safely operate custodial equipment (e.g., floor buffers, auto scrubbers, carpet extractors) and apply proper cleaning and sanitizing methods. 3. Experience providing customer service to a wide variety of people in medium to large facilities. 4. Demonstrating attention to detail in completion of assigned tasks, including awareness of surrounding and work in proximity to the campus community. 5. Knowledge of workplace safety procedures, including chemical handling and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 6. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, interact courteously with staff and visitors, and report facility issues promptly. 7. Demonstrated understanding of proper cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing procedures for restrooms, offices, common areas, and high-touch surfaces. 8. Experience providing customer service in a high-volume environment, including resolving escalated or complex issues.
  • Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience.

Emergency service requests may extend beyond normal operational hours. Role will be exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions with a broad range of tempered and non-tempered conditions. Exposure to noisy environments and chemicals used in Facilities Operations will be required. May be required to work multiple sites.
