DEFINITION

Under immediate supervisor, performs work of routine difficulty in performing general custodial services in a school plant, and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Sweeps, mops, waxes and scrubs floors

Dust, waxes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork

Empties and cleans waste receptacles

Washes windows and walls, cleans restrooms and classroom heaters and screens, sweeps sidewalks and play areas

Moves and arranges furniture and equipment

Clean fountains

Polishes metalwork

Replaces light bulbs

Replenishes supplies

Turns out lights and locks doors and windows

Reports the need for repairs

Watches buildings to prevent vandalism

Operates power cleaning equipment

May do limited grounds maintenance work

May make minor non-technical repairs

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience:

None required

Knowledge of:

Methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work

Skills in:

Understanding and carrying out oral and written directions

Using common cleaning equipment

Doing manual work associated with custodial duties

Ability to:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
