Compensation Salary Range:

$19.70 - $21.00 Hourly, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is classified as non-exempt under California and federal wage and hour laws. Company Overview We are a growing janitorial services company with approximately 150 employees dedicated to providing exceptional cleaning and facility maintenance services throughout California. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Utility Team Member (UT1) to join our team. This position requires a commitment to safety, efficiency, quality work, and professional representation of Summit Building Services at all client sites. Position Summary The Utility Team Member (UT1) plays an essential role in daily operations by providing detailed cleaning, and support for senior utility team members. This entry‑level position helps maintain client environments to SBS standards while learning company procedures, safety expectations, and technical cleaning skills. UT1 team members are expected to work safely, follow instructions, communicate effectively, and professionally represent SBS at all client locations. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. General Cleaning Perform general janitorial duties independently, including restroom cleaning, surface disinfection, trash removal, floor care (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming), and common area maintenance. Complete assigned work within scheduled shift time while meeting SBS quality standards. Maintain assigned areas in inspection-ready condition. 2. Project Support & Skill Development Assist senior Utility Technicians with project-based cleaning tasks. Support move-in/move-out services and specialty assignments as directed. Demonstrate skill progression in detailed cleaning techniques. Participate in supervised equipment training. 3. Equipment Exposure Hands-on introduction to tools and equipment. UT1 does not operate advanced equipment independently. Learning proper use, care, and storage of janitorial tools Introduction to auto scrubbers, carpet extractors, and floor machines Assisting with equipment setup, maintenance, and cleanup Practicing safe use of ladders and basic tools under supervision Prevent equipment misuse or damage through proper handling. 4. Safety Responsibilities Safety is the highest priority in this role. Follow all SBS safety protocols, PPE requirements, and chemical handling procedures. Use proper dilution methods and comply with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines. Maintain safe work areas, including proper signage and hazard prevention. Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents. 5. Communication & Professional Conduct Communicating effectively with supervisors and team leads Asking questions when clarification is needed and following directions accurately Reporting completed work, safety concerns, or site issues promptly Maintaining professional appearance, conduct, and customer service standards Representing Summit Building Services professionally at client locations This role is the first step in the Utility career path. Advancement to UT2 is based on demonstrated performance, safety compliance, quality scores, and successful completion of required skill certifications Required Qualifications Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong reliability and punctuality. Ability to meet physical demands of the role. Willingness to learn equipment and cleaning procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to travel between job sites. Performance Expectations Maintain minimum 90% quality inspection scores. Complete assigned tasks within scheduled labor hours. Maintain 100% compliance with safety policies and PPE requirements. Demonstrate progressive skill development required for advancement eligibility. Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality standards. Preferred Qualifications Prior janitorial, utility, or facilities maintenance experience. Experience using janitorial tools and equipment (vacuums, mops, scrubbers, ladders, etc.). Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Valid driver's license (if use of a company vehicle may be required). Strong customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally at client sites.
