A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
The porter is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of our designated facilities. This includes performing routine cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash receptacles, as well as handling other minor duties.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Clean and maintain designated areas, including offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and/or scrub floors as needed. Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Empty trash receptacles and replace liners. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and fixtures. Refill restroom supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces. Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, replacing air filters, and fixing minor plumbing issues. Notify management of any maintenance or repair needs beyond janitorial scope. Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures when using cleaning chemicals and equipment. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and request replenishment as needed. Follow established cleaning schedules and protocols. Flexibility to work overtime and non-standard hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment. Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning tasks. Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive tasks. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Good communication skills to interact with coworkers and supervisors effectively.

Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity. Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, mechanical hazards, forklifts, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, communicable diseases. Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting on a daily basis.
