Essential Elements:

Print Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, maintain an assigned school plant, group of buildings or office space in a clean, orderly and secure manner during an assigned shift.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Custodian II incumbents operate cleaning equipment and perform general custodial duties in the care and cleaning of assigned District offices, school sites and other facilities. The Custodian I is assigned routine cleaning and sanitizing duties in the high school cafeteria.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Perform custodial duties according to established schedules and procedures; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; clean chalkboards and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners. E Clean, scrub and disinfect restrooms, showers and related areas; wash windows, walls, tables and benches; polish metal work, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; empty and clean the waste receptacles. E Maintain custodial equipment and materials; refill various classroom and rest room dispensers, including paper towels, soap and related items; request additional materials according to established procedures. E Assure security of buildings and grounds during assigned shift; lower flags; lock and unlock doors and gates; pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings. E Operate modern custodial equipment including buffers, vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops and scrubbing equipment. E Report damage or unsafe conditions to assigned supervisor. E Adjust and arrange furniture and equipment; set up facilities for special events and meetings as assigned. E Participate in major cleaning and restoration projects during vacation periods. E Assist with general maintenance duties as requested. Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:

Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning blackboards, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures. Cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work. Safety practices and work methods. Requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.

ABILITY TO

Maintain an assigned school plant, group of buildings or office space in a clean, orderly and secure manner during an assigned shift. Learn the schedules, procedures and use of custodial tools. Use common cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and efficient manner. Work cooperatively with others. Meet schedules and time lines. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Perform heavy physical labor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor and outdoor work environment; subject to working evening or variable hours and regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial equipment, standing and walking for extended periods of time, bending at the waist, carrying, pushing or pulling and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

HAZARDS:

Exposure to fumes from cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.

•Selected applicants will be called to take the Custodian II test and must pass it to be qualified for an interview.

•Previous school custodial experience preferred. All of the following documents are required for this position: Letter of Introduction Letter(s) of Recommendation (3 Letters of Recommendation, one from current or most recent supervisor) Resume Requirements / Qualifications

MATERIALS

•Selected applicants will be called to take the Custodian II test and must pass it to be qualified for an interview.

•Previous school custodial experience preferred. All of the following documents are required for this position: Letter of Introduction Letter(s) of Recommendation (3 Letters of Recommendation, one from current or most recent supervisor) Resume Comments and Other Information This position that reports 8.0 hours/day; 5 days/week; 242 work-day calendar District offers coverage for health, vision and dental plans for 242-day, prorated to FTE. District contribution for health benefits shall be equal to Kaiser medical contribution for the employee only, plus a monthly contribution of $300 towards either employee + one or full family. For C.U.S.D. Employees, the District password is cusd.
