A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Under the direction and supervision of the Custodian Supervisor, the Custodian (or substitute custodian) cleans and prepares school facilities for use.
General Duties:
1. Pick up trash and empty trash containers as appropriate and assigned. 2. Sweep, vacuum, or mop floors or sidewalks as appropriate. 3. Clean sinks, bathrooms, and other plumbing facilities as appropriate. 4. Clean windows, walls, chalkboards, furniture, and equipment as assigned. 5. Assist with moving furniture and equipment as assigned. 6. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs as assigned, including replacing burned out lights. 7. Assist with maintenance projects as assigned. 8. Stock and deliver school supplies as assigned. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Basic knowledge of cleaning tasks and related materials. 3. Must be able to lift 104 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
