Job Title:
Sanitation Associate Job Description The Sanitation Associate maintains all plant surfaces and equipment in a clean, sanitary condition throughout the overnight shift. This role follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) under the guidance of the Sanitation and Quality Assurance teams. The Sanitation Associate supports food safety programs, including USDA requirements, allergen control, and traceability, while ensuring proper use of cleaning chemicals, adherence to safety protocols, and timely reporting of issues. 3rd shift - 9pm to 5:30am $21.50/hr Responsibilities Execute GMP and SSOP procedures consistently to maintain a sanitary food production environment. Support USDA pre-operational inspections and comply with all food safety and regulatory requirements. Handle, store, and secure cleaning chemicals properly in accordance with safety and company guidelines. Follow Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety procedures during sanitation activities. Complete sanitation logs, cleaning records, and pest control documentation accurately and on time. Prevent cross-contamination by following proper hygiene, equipment, and product handling procedures. Minimize water damage and assist with water conservation efforts during cleaning and sanitation tasks. Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, trash areas, and other common spaces as assigned. Sanitize production equipment, floors, walls, and other plant surfaces using appropriate tools and chemicals. Lead by example in following uniform, personal hygiene, GMP, and safety compliance standards. Assist in preparing equipment for production after sanitation, ensuring it is correctly assembled and ready for use. Report equipment malfunctions, missing parts, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel. Work closely with Quality Assurance and Sanitation leadership to meet sanitation and food safety goals. Adapt to changing priorities and shift needs while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety. Maintain excellent attendance and reliability to support continuous production operations. Essential Skills Basic Food Handler certification. Knowledge of food processing and food manufacturing environments. Experience working with cleaning equipment and sanitation chemicals. Experience working closely with food in a production or manufacturing setting. Understanding of GMP guidelines and food safety practices. Ability to lift 30-40 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs continuously, 40 lbs frequently, and exert up to 50 lbs occasionally. Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently during the shift. Ability to use hands and arms continuously for handling, reaching, and operating equipment. Ability to climb and balance continuously, and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl frequently. Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly. Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment. Ability to read and complete sanitation records and cleaning schedules in accordance with Quality Assurance guidelines. Ability to adapt to shift changes and report safety concerns promptly. Ability to make sound decisions, manage time effectively, and use equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to read and interpret safety and procedure documents in English. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in janitorial, general labor, or similar sanitation roles. Hands-on experience with food safety practices and janitorial duties in a food manufacturing facility. Spanish language skills are a plus. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with production and QA teams. Customer service mindset with a focus on supporting internal stakeholders and production needs. Work Environment This position is based in a food manufacturing facility and operates on an overnight shift from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The environment includes exposure to extreme temperatures ranging from approximately 35°F to 85°F, frequent contact with water and sanitation chemicals, and regular use of high-pressure hoses. Team members work near moving mechanical parts and experience frequent vibration and moderate noise levels. Floors may be wet, and there are various food-related smells throughout the facility. The role requires continuous physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, and frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Proper GMP personal protective equipment (PPE), such as smocks, hair nets, and other required gear, must be worn at all times, and jewelry and similar items are not permitted to maintain food safety and hygiene standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
