Jewish Long Beach and the AJCC administer a wide variety of programs and services, rooted in Jewish values but open to all, including early childhood education, summer camp, and after-school programs, adult education, services for seniors, leadership development, fitness and wellness programs, advocacy, and much more. Jewish Long Beach also awards nearly $500,000 in grants annually to a variety of nonprofit agencies throughout the Long Beach area and overseas. The organization owns and operates an eight-acre multi-use campus in east Long Beach, has an annual operating budget of approximately $7 million, and manages approximately $35 million in philanthropic assets. Position Summary The Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of locker room, restrooms and the rest of the facility and readiness for meetings through setups. Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of theJLB/AJCC
facilities. All work performed by the Maintenance Associate prioritized the health and safety of the members, visitors, and staff on the premises and anticipates the needs and provides what is needed to keep all areas of the facilities running smoothly and effectively. Essential Position Responsibilities Housekeeping functions including the regular and special cleaning of the building and grounds Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; vacuums, brooms and mops Daily inspections of all rooms to ensure safety, cleanliness and timely repair as needed Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, conferences, and events Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris from sidewalks and stairs Carry and communicate through the walkie-talkie Attend to emergencies when necessary for custodial assistance Minor grounds keeping duties Assisting with directing traffic for our parking lot Maintain the highest quality of courtesy, friendliness and service excellence toward members, visitors and staff Understand and support the AJCC's mission and values Work effectively with all staff members Additional responsibilities may be assigned Behavioral Expectations Clearly communicate the "mission," ensuring everyone works toward the same goals. Skills Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and display qualities of integrity and honesty Basic knowledge of cleaning products Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment Resourceful, dependable, efficient and service oriented Ability to remain organized while managing multiple details Ability to communicate effectively Education, Experience and Requirements High School Diploma or GED preferred Janitorial experience preferred Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities required. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the Maintenance Associate is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. This person is required to stand and move (bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach, climb) about the entire building and grounds (up to 90% of working hours) including mechanical areas and the roof, climb ladders, and may operate hydraulic lift equipment. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Exposure to natural and chemical substances. Work Environment The work environment is primarily indoors and occasional exposure to outdoor elements will occur during the workday. The noise level is consistent with an Early Childhood Education center, fitness center and a building with significant access from the public. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to human blood, airborne particles, fumes and other potentially infectious materials.
