A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in a designated area, ensuring that facilities are sanitary, safe, and welcoming for all occupants. This role includes a variety of tasks such as cleaning, sanitizing, and light maintenance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
General Duties:
Follow established cleaning procedures and schedules. Maintain a clean and organized storage area for cleaning supplies and equipment. Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and effectively. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous custodial or janitorial experience in a medical setting preferred. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and disposal methods. Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners. Physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous tasks. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods. Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and equipment. Ability to work in various environmental conditions (heat, cold, etc.).
