A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Overview Follow specific instructions, established procedures, written orders, and plans subject to inspection of work during and upon completion. The Preferred Casual is responsible for completing work assignments properly and in accordance with specified time limits as directed by the supervisor. Perform all building custodial work to ensure a clean building. This work will include the cleaning of all offices, public areas, restrooms, meeting rooms, exhibit halls, and servicing events. Other custodial areas include the lobby, ballrooms, theater, corridors, elevators & stairways. This role pays an hourly rate of $30.39 (per CBA). Benefits as per the union agreement. This position will remain open until November 13, 2026. Responsibilities Assist in tasks associated with assembly, disassembly, or installation of Convention Center equipment (tables, chairs, stages, etc.). Sweeps, scrubs, applies finish, and polishes floors. Clean carpets and upholstered furniture using vacuums of various sizes and carpet cleaning machines. Dusts furniture. Washes walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills. Empties wastebaskets and empties and cleans ash urns. Replenishes bathroom supplies. Transports trash and waste to the disposal area. Set up and take down chairs, tables, staging (risers), and other equipment according to written or verbal instructions. Places tables and chairs on racks for storage and removes them for use, including stacking and unstacking racks using a forklift. Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work various workdays and hours to meet business needs, including early/late hours, long days, weekends, and holidays. Must be reliable and punctual. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write daily logs, routine reports, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Forklift, Bloodborne Pathogen, and Aerial Lift Certifications. Ability to operate all electrical floor and carpet cleaning equipment involved in custodial work, including forklift, aerial lift, vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor, buffer, power sweeper, and scrubber.
