A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Work individually maintaining assigned work area.

Qualifications Required:
Knowledge of custodial safety practices and procedures Knowledge of custodial materials, methods and practices Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator Ability to mix proper amounts of water/chemical solutions Ability to understand and follow instructions Ability to operate custodial equipment Ability to work without close supervision Ability to train personnel in custodial work Knowledge of department policies and procedures regarding personnel, supply and equipment, and custodial work Knowledge of inventory practices Ability to coordinate and plan for effective use of equipment, supplies and personnel Ability to resolve problems and complaints Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, organizing and general administration Ability to plan and direct custodial operations including determining work priorities Ability to bend, pull, and push as well as carry a minimum of 30 pounds
