What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

High school Diploma or GED equivalent preferred

JOB GOAL
Under general supervision, performs building and classroom custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, and finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains clean facilities in classrooms and public spaces including cafeterias and gymnasiums. Sweeps and mops floors. Vacuums carpets Cleans restrooms and restocks paper and soap supplies Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies. Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal. Unlocks and locks doors. Operates the light system. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Assist with snow removal activities. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Ability to understand verbal instructions. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects. Ability to understand written and verbal communications. Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to climb ladders and work from heights

EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Supervisor following the evaluation criteria as written in the RD-2 Policy Manual. Wray School District RD-2 EOE
