A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Full Job Description Description:
Ellington Public Schools is currently accepting applications for substitute custodians for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications:
Successful candidate must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position. While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, candidate must be able to sit, walk, stand, lift, and move items as needed. Successful candidate must be able to take direction and work independently. Successful candidate will be required to submit to a state and national criminal history check as well as a DCF review.
Working Conditions:
Substitute custodians will be paid at the rate of $17.43/hr. There are no additional benefits. Assignments will be made through the district's Maintenance Department.
