Job Description
This position requires a dependable and service-oriented individual who is committed to maintaining library buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, sanitized, and comfortable condition for patrons, employees, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be able to perform general cleaning, custodial, groundskeeping, and minor maintenance duties with limited supervision, while maintaining a consistently high standard of work.
General Duties:
Clean and maintain library buildings, facilities, and grounds. Communicate with the building maintenance team regarding work needs, supplies, and maintenance concerns. Maintain inventory of restroom, custodial, and cleaning supplies. Follow and enforce safety requirements to protect employees, patrons, visitors, buildings, and grounds. Open the building and prepare entrances for public access. Lock doors and properly secure the building at closing. Assist in safeguarding the building during emergencies and escalate issues to appropriate personnel. Use hand tools and power tools to complete minor repairs and replace equipment as needed. Identify and recommend non-routine repairs or maintenance improvements. Set up, move, and arrange furniture and equipment for programs, meetings, and events. Mop, sweep, buff, strip, and wax floors. Shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture. Dust furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other surfaces. Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, sills, and computer areas. Supervisor:
Receives general supervision from the Library Director and/or their designee.
Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Ability to work on high ladders and perform duties in adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, dirt, and dust. Knowledge of chemical safety practices and the ability to understand and follow safety-related materials, instructions, and procedures. Ability to work in environments involving odors and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment and the proper mixing of chemicals to prepare cleaning solutions in accordance with specifications. Must demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, reliability, and effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Knowledge of or experience with carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, OSHA-related practices, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-related requirements is helpful.
