Job Description

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of Diocesan Real Estate. S/he performs a variety of facility and equipment maintenance duties and may perform various routine maintenance and repairs including routine carpentry, electrical and plumbing duties based on skill level and experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs all assigned carpentry and related miscellaneous project work.
  • Changes out all interior and exterior light fixtures and performs testing of emergency lighting in buildings on a regular basis.
  • Patches and repairs any and all roof membranes, exterior gutters and drains.
  • Performs landscaping including but not limited cutting grass, branch/weed cutting, shrubbery maintenance, planting/seeding of lawns, trees, shrubs and fertilizing of same.
  • Patches and repairs sidewalks and masonry / stone walls.
  • Performs realignment, relocation and fit-out of office spaces.
  • Paints interior and exterior spaces.
  • Patches and repairs ceilings.
  • Performs set-up and take-down for all Diocesan events including chairs and tables and other related requirements.
  • Moves and transports furniture, equipment and other items between Diocesan properties.
  • Performs basic plumbing maintenance and repair on any and all Diocesan property toilets, kitchens, laundry fixtures, equipment and sewer lines. Replaces hvac filters in building mechanical equipment. Removes and replaces defective motors and valves.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered tractors, front-end loaders, trailers, backhoes, mowers and weeders in the performance of construction and/or maintenance work.
  • Performs maintenance of automobiles and keeps supervisor apprised of any service/registration/Insurance documentation needed on all vehicles.
  • Lays carpets and flooring repairs in all Diocesan buildings.
  • Builds office furniture.
  • Assesses mechanical equipment in Diocesan buildings including preparing equipment for winter and summer seasons.
  • Maintains daily maintenance logs and work reports indicating time and materials used.
  • Maintains all receipts related to any expenditures towards projects or from daily expenditures.
  • Adheres to all Company safety rules and Universal Precautions
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and a valid driver's license.
  • 18 years of age or older due to state requirements for job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of procedures, practices, tools, and equipment used in maintenance.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS?

  • Must possess ability to: o Operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, leaf blower, chain saw, jack hammer and pump.
o Move, load and unload equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds and heavier. o Work independently and without direct supervision. o Walk long distances around campus; bend, stoop, squat and reach; climb ladders. o Ability to lay pipe, dig ditches, trenches and post holes. o Lifts boxes and other equipment up to 50 pounds in gross weight. o Operate mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, a dump truck, tractor, utility vehicle, marker trailed, dump trailer, jack hammer, tamper and backhoe. o Accurately use measuring devices (i.e. tape measure, yard stick, etc.). o Understand safety and security issues and implications. o Read and understand English language.
  • Able to work assigned hours and overtime as requested.
Heavy Work:
Exerting 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.
  • Knowledge of building safety and emergency response procedures.
