Wages and fringe benefits are governed by the U.S. Department of Labor Service Contract Act wage determination applicable to the county in which the site is located. Position Summary The Custodian performs janitorial and cleaning services at an assigned FAA air-traffic facility in accordance with the contract Statement of Work and the site frequency chart. Work is performed inside an active, security-controlled aviation facility, so reliability, discretion, and strict adherence to access and safety rules are essential. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Empty, clean, and reline all waste and recycle receptacles; remove collected trash to designated outside dumpsters; empty paper-shredder receptacles and replace bags. Dust and clean horizontal and vertical surfaces — desks, tables, chairs, counters, ledges, partitions, sills, baseboards, vents, and wall-mounted fixtures; remove spots, smudges, and fingerprints. Disinfect high-touch surfaces (door handles, push plates, light switches, dispensers, shared phones, handrails) and perform high dusting above 7 feet on a scheduled basis. Clean interior windows, sills, and window coverings (blinds/shades).
Note:
tower cab windows and cab blinds are excluded. Vacuum carpets, rugs, and mats; spot-treat stains; shampoo / steam-extract carpeting on the scheduled frequency. Sweep, dust-mop, damp-mop, and disinfect hard floors; strip, wax, and buff resilient flooring as scheduled; place wet-floor signage. Clean stairwells, elevators, and handicap lifts. Clean and disinfect restrooms, showers, and locker rooms; restock consumables (hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, seat covers, deodorizers). Clean drinking fountains, lactation rooms, kitchens, breakrooms, queue lines, and appliances; service wellness centers per the frequency chart. Clean nonoperational surfaces within operational (air-traffic) areas only — coordinating access with the COR in advance and notifying the COR on completion. Respond to blood and bodily-fluid cleanups using approved bloodborne-pathogen procedures and PPE. Police grounds, entryways, exterior stairwells, and smoking areas; empty exterior receptacles. Maintain the daily task checklist, report hazards/needed repairs (burnt-out lights, leaks, stoppages) to the COR, turn in lost-and-found items, and practice utility conservation. Security, Access, and Conduct Wear company-identifying attire (uniform shirt) and a company ID badge at all times; wear the FAA security badge above the waist on outermost clothing whenever on site. Do not disturb papers, desks, drawers, cabinets, or government equipment; do not use government phones, copiers, or computers. No cell-phone use in operational areas; keep noise to a minimum and avoid any interference with FAA equipment or operations. Coordinate all secure-area cleaning with the COR in advance; report open safes or security concerns immediately. Follow key-control procedures; report any lost key or badge to the COR immediately. Qualifications Be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States. Ability to pass an FAA background investigation and to obtain and maintain a facility security badge through the Vendor Applicant Portal (VAP). Valid, REAL ID-compliant government identification. Prior commercial or institutional janitorial/custodial experience preferred. Knowledge of (or willingness to be trained in) safe chemical handling, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). Dependable and punctual; able to work independently with minimal supervision and to be trusted around sensitive and secure areas. Reliable transportation; availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required by the site schedule. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Stand and walk for the duration of the shift; bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs and step ladders. Lift and carry up to approximately 50 lbs; push and pull wheeled carts and floor equipment. Safely operate vacuums, buffers, auto-scrubbers, and other floor-care equipment. Work around cleaning chemicals using appropriate PPE, and within an active aviation operational environment.
