Custodian (PT)

The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who, under direction, performs responsible janitorial work involving the care and maintenance of various municipal buildings. Although the employee works independently and is often physically removed from supervision, duties are performed within the framework of pre-established policies and procedures.

EXAMPLES OF MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

- Janitorial tools and equipment such as mops, brooms, brushes, vacuums; electric buffers, shampooers, etc.; electronics equipment such as sound systems (Parks & Recreation Dept.); kitchen equipment (Parks & Recreation Dept.); electric blowers; automobile or truck

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

- Maintenance Crew Chief Vacuums and shampoos carpets; Sweeps and mops floors; strips and waxes floors; Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture and woodwork; Cleans windows, doors, walls, tiles, air conditioning vents, etc.; Cleans bathroom toilets and sinks; Replaces paper supplies and soap in restrooms; Empties ash trays and waste baskets; Maintains inventory of cleaning and paper supplies; Prepares and maintains routine records and logs; Requisitions supplies as needed; Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment; Sets up and takes down tables, chairs, platforms, podiums, etc. For banquets or meetings (Parks & Recreation Dept.); Moves office furniture and equipment; trains and oversees work of newly hired Custodians, as required; Locks and unlocks buildings; Delivers supplies; Sets up electronics equipment such as sound systems, etc. for events (Parks & Recreation Dept.); Performs other related duties as required.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

- Assists in the preparation and clean up for special events; Assumes duties of Maintenance Crew Chief in their absence, when assigned; Assists the City in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work; knowledge of kitchen maintenance and equipment (Parks & Recreation Dept.); knowledge of special equipment such as electronics equipment and sound systems, etc. Ability to adhere to prescribed routines and practices; ability to train and oversee the work of others; ability to read and write English; ability to prepare and maintain routine records and logs; ability to operate departmental equipment; ability to drive a vehicle; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked

Working Hours:

IMPORTANT

Generally, Monday through Saturday, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm; with an average of 15 to 30 hours per week. However, employees must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, some weekends, and holidays. Physical Demands - This is moderate to heavy work for most of the working time. Requires walking short distances; frequent standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, bending; lifting 50+ pounds, carrying/pushing/pulling 50+ pounds; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing, and speech; working in adverse environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) periodically; regular driving.

Salary Information:

As of October 1, 2025, $16.68 per hour; part-time/temporary positions working less than 30 hours per week are not currently eligible for employment benefits. Only applicants with the most job-related qualifications will be selected for interview and further consideration. Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Following a thorough background investigation, including a criminal history and driver's license check, the candidate will be given a conditional offer of employment.

Note:

Parks & Recreation candidates must be determined eligible for employment through the Florida Department of Children & Families before a conditional offer can be made . The final candidate will be required to pass a drug test and medical exam.
