A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Department Facilities - Building Services Responsibilities Cleans blinds, baseboards, and window sills in the parlor and office. Dusts and polishes furniture and vacuums the carpet. Cleans all bathroom areas by scrubbing, disinfecting toilets, showers, lavatories, empties, cleans sanitary cans, tissue boxes, and waste baskets. Cleans student kitchens, sweeps entrance walks, and building entrances. Dust mops floors, stairwells, and cleans trash chute rooms. Dust walls, doors, ceilings, baseboards, and transoms in the entire building. Collects trash from trash barrels on each floor to be picked up by the city collectors. Mops, waxes, and buffs floors in assigned areas. Checks and replaces light bulbs that need replacing and cleans trash containers regularly. During general cleaning, brushes mattresses, changes covers, dusts springs, washes dressers, drawers, mirrors, baseboards, polishes furniture, scrubs closets and shelves. Moves furniture when needed; thoroughly cleans students' rooms when vacated. Washes window sills, windows, and blinds. Applies disinfectants, deodorizes, and other chemicals by spray method for sanitation purposes; performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Completion of 9th grade.
