Job Description

General Summary:
Under general supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, performs routine maintenance and custodial work in and around the Public Works Maintenance Facility.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Must maintain high level of confidentiality and discretion due to high level access to City facilities and possible confidential information. Cleans and washes floors, walls, woodwork, windows, blinds, desks, counter tops, folding tables, light fixtures, and garbage cans. Dusts sills, baseboards, desks, pictures, and cabinets. Clean and sanitize the break room, restroom, and shower facilities to include stocking necessary supplies. Empties waste baskets, recycling containers, and other trash. Spot cleans, sweeps, dust mops and/or damp mops hard floor surfaces daily as needed. Vacuum clean rugs and carpets daily. Vacuum furniture and drapes/ blinds as needed or instructed. Deep cleans carpeted areas with carpet extractor or other acceptable procedures. Set up meeting rooms for various events. Turns lights on and off and secures all building door systems and office space as required. Ensures supplies are ordered and received. Performs snow and ice removal of entry points into the building with either a shovel or snow blower. Spreads deicing materials as required. Notifies Supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement.
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Committed to creating and maintaining a positive and productive work environment. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Requires a level of knowledge normally acquired through the successful completion of high school or a GED equivalency. The successful candidate must possess, and maintain throughout the duration of employment, a valid driver's license.
Experience:
Requires one to two weeks experience to understand the cleaning cycles and approach to cleaning the City's offices.
Interpersonal Skils:
Requires excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with co-workers, other City employees, contractors, vendors and respond to requests made by the public. Must be an effective team player and requires the ability to work independently.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Skill in the operation of building maintenance equipment, including but not limited to sweeper/ wet vacuum, walk behind carpet extractor, high speed electric floor maintenance machine and pads, stripping machines and automatic scrubbers. Requires the ability to determine solution strengths of cleaning solvents and establish the most efficient means of cleaning an area quickly and efficiently.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear; and occasionally lift and/or move in excess of forty (40) pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work Schedule:
Flexible scheduled hours between 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday based on the needs of the department. Generally, this position will work six (6) hours Monday through Thursday and five (5) hours on Friday. Hours may vary based on flexible scheduling or needs of the department.
