A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including such duties as sanitizing, mopping, dusting, vacuum and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, snow removal, grounds keeping, and other related responsibilities. Performs general maintenance in the upkeep of Y facilities and equipment.
Essential Functions:
1. Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to, wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, painting, vacuuming, and general cleaning. 2. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment. 3. Reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed. 4. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor. 5. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies. 6. May set up furniture for events. 7. Ability to work with chemicals, solvents, cleaners and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray and aerosol forms according to OSHA guidelines 8. Qualifications:
1. Six months or more of related experience preferred. 2. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents. 3. Ability to report and record maintenance requests. 4. Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. 5. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
Physical Demands:
1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties. 2. Ability to work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms. 3. Ability to clean equipment and operate motorized equipment as needed. 4. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust. 5. Ability to walk, stand, sit, tilt head, stretch, push/pull and/or lift objects, use all muscles and work in a kneeling or reaching position 6. Ability to be in a crouching position and regularly twist body at the waist, shoulders or legs 7. Ability to lift or stack materials weighing 50 lbs. up to a distance of 200 feet
