What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

The position is responsible for maintaining clean and orderly facilities for students, faculty, staff and visitors. As part of a self-directed team, the position will take initiative to schedule cleaning and maintenance activities.
Duties may include:
Perform basic cleaning, sanitization and trash collection in and around residences halls and university buildings Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies Notify occupants of cleaning and floor maintenance schedules Maintain clean and clear walkways, ensuring they are free of debris, litter, snow and ice Respond to emergencies and assist other departments when needed to ensure optimum service Ensure that assigned rooms and buildings are opened and locked as scheduled Assist with training new employees Other duties as assigned
