Job Description

Vacancy Announcement Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated, reliable, and community-minded Elementary School Custodian to join our team. In this role, you do much more than maintain a building—you help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment where young students can learn, grow, and thrive. As a vital part of our school community, you will ensure that classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and playgrounds are safe and sanitary. The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, a sharp eye for detail, and a warm, friendly demeanor, as you will interact daily with students, teachers, and parents.     Classrooms & Common Areas:
    Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust classrooms, offices, hallways, and the media center daily.
      Restroom Maintenance:
      Clean, sanitize, and stock all student and staff restrooms multiple times a day to ensure strict hygiene standards.
        Waste Removal:
        Empty trash, recycling, and compost bins daily, replacing liners and safely disposing of waste in designated outdoor dumpsters.
          Lunchroom Turnover:
          Clean and sanitize lunch tables, benches, and floors between lunch periods to maintain a clean eating environment for students.
            Spill Response:
            Promptly clean up food and liquid spills during breakfast and lunch hours to prevent slips and falls.
            • Securing the
            Building:
            Lock and unlock doors, windows, and gates according to school schedules to maintain campus security.
              Groundskeeping:
              Inspect playgrounds daily for safety hazards or debris; sweep entryways, clear walkways of snow/ice (seasonally), and keep the perimeter litter-free.
                Minor Repairs:
                Perform basic, routine maintenance tasks such as changing lightbulbs, tightening loose screws, or fixing minor desk/chair misalignments.
                  Supply Management:
                  Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and paper products, notifying the lead custodian when stock is low.
                    Event Setup:
                    Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and audio equipment for school assemblies, parent-teacher nights, and special student events.
                    Summer Duties Washing Windows:
                    Wash all windows inside and out.
                    Painting:
                    Repaint classrooms as needed and touch-up scuffed or faded walls, door frames and hallways.
                    Carpet Cleaning:
                    Thoroughly vacuum, pre-treat and steam-extract all carpeted areas in classrooms and offices.
                    Classroom Relocation:
                    Move furniture out of classrooms for custodial/maintenance needs and return/organize items before the new school year. Job Requirements & Physical Demands
                    • This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand and walk for extended periods, and safely handle standard commercial cleaning chemicals
                    • Applicants must have high school diploma or equivalent
                    • Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
                    • Selected applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test Salary Starting hourly rate: $16.
                    08 Benefits Employee medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage paid 100% by the district. Family benefits paid at 80% coverage. $20,000 employee life insurance and $2,000 dependent life insurance paid by the district. Eligible for PERSI retirement
                    Schedule:
                    This is a full-time, year-round position. Work days are Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day
