A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Flexible shifts (Monday - Sunday) Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall hygiene of our ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Center. The ideal candidate will possess strong custodial and janitorial experience, with a focus on ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for staff and clients alike. This role requires a proactive approach to cleaning, facilities maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols, contributing to the smooth operation of our center. The Custodian will play a vital role in upholding high standards of sanitation and facility care, supporting our mission to provide exceptional services in a clean and safe setting. Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting all areas of the center. Operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, and other janitorial tools to maintain floors and surfaces. Handle chemical agents safely by following proper chemical handling safety procedures and maintaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation. Conduct heavy lifting tasks using safe lifting practices to move furniture, supplies, or equipment as needed. Maintain sanitation standards across all areas, including restrooms, treatment rooms, common spaces, and administrative offices. Ensure proper disposal of waste materials in accordance with health and safety regulations. Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as painting touch-ups or replacing light bulbs to support facilities upkeep. Follow safety protocols diligently to prevent accidents or injuries during cleaning operations or manual handling activities. Requirements Proven custodial or janitorial experience within commercial or industrial settings. Familiarity with cleaning procedures involving chemical agents and sanitation standards. Experience operating cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and industrial vacuums. Knowledge of safe lifting practices and manual handling techniques to prevent injury. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills for maintaining cleanliness standards. Ability to follow safety protocols rigorously while performing daily tasks. Customer service skills to interact professionally with staff members when needed. Reliable transportation to travel to assigned center locations (Addison & Bensenville, IL). Prior experience in facilities maintenance or general upkeep is preferred but not mandatory.
