A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Summary Bethalto Community Unit School District #8 is seeking a dependable and motivated Custodian to join our team at Trimpe Middle School . This position plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors throughout the school day. The ideal candidate is proactive, takes pride in their work, enjoys working around children, and is committed to providing excellent customer service while supporting the daily operations of the school.
Working hours:
11am-7pm. Responsibilities Maintain the cleanliness of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, offices, and common areas throughout the school day and after school events. Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other cleaning needs to help maintain a safe learning environment. Restock restroom and custodial supplies as needed throughout the day. Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing, and trash removal. Monitor school facilities for maintenance or safety concerns and report issues to the appropriate personnel. Assist with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events and activities. Maintain building entrances, sidewalks, and outdoor areas by removing debris and ensuring they remain safe and presentable. Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely while following all district safety procedures. Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and fellow custodians to meet the daily needs of the building. Support a positive and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required. Ability to perform physical duties including lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment. Ability to work independently while responding to the changing needs of a busy school during the day. Positive communication and customer service skills when interacting with students, staff, and visitors. Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safe work practices is preferred. Must successfully pass a background check and comply with all district policies and procedures.
