The Village of Gurnee Police Department is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Custodian to care for and maintain its facility. This position performs routine custodial and light maintenance work to ensure that offices, corridors, restrooms, jail cells, equipment, and common areas remain clean, sanitary, safe, and properly supplied.

Key Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have experience with professional cleaning practices, custodial equipment, and basic facility maintenance. The successful candidate must interact with supervisors, employees, and members of the public in a courteous, professional, and effective manner. Sweep, vacuum and mop floors Clean offices, corridors, restrooms, jail cells, windows, walls, equipment, and other assigned areas Restock or replace facility supplies, including soap, tissue, paper towels, and light bulbs Operate custodial and maintenance tools and equipment, including sweepers, floor buffers, drills, snow blowers, brooms, mops, ladders, hammers, and screwdrivers Collect and properly dispose of garbage Move and rearrange furniture, assemble, relocate, or modify office furnishings as directed Paint and perform minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work as requested Follow established safety procedures and properly use personal protective equipment Perform related duties and other assignments as required Key qualities we're looking for: Someone who is dependable, takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and can work independently. Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent One to three years of relevant custodial, cleaning, facilities maintenance, or related work experience Other combinations of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the position may be considered The hiring range for this position is $34.78-$36.52 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, within a full hourly range of $34.78-$42.28 per hour. Benefits include medical and dental plan options, employer-paid vision and life insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays. Retirement benefits are provided through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), with the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. Employees contribute 1% of their pay to a Retiree Health Savings Plan, and the employer contributes an additional $1,300 annually on a bi-weekly basis on the employee's behalf.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening hours and overtime may be required for special events or other operational needs but are not part of the regular work schedule.

Conditions of Employment:

This position works within a law enforcement facility. The selected candidate must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation and obtain and maintain authorization to work in secure and restricted-access areas of the Police Department, including detention areas. The employee must follow all Department security procedures, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
