Custodian Reports To:
Building Principal and Director of Maintenance & Operations Summary:
Provides housekeeping and light maintenance services to ensure an attractive, sanitary, and safe school environment. Periodically performs special cleaning operations and assists in preparing for special events.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Communication/Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Proficient in English, both written and oral.
Mathematical Skill :
Basic mathematical skills, such as the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to prioritize tasks.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Illinois Drivers License Computer skills: Check email regularly (Gmail), navigate the internet and utilize search engines (Google, Bing) effectively.
Physical Demands:
The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; bodily fluids, waste; chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Essential Responsibilities:
Clean assigned areas (classrooms, offices, restrooms, etc.) using approved methods to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment. Arrange furniture and equipment in preparation for meetings and special events Maintain adequate supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, mops, various cleaning machines, etc,) Distribute supplies and equipment (e.g. fills dispensers-soap, toilet paper, hand towels, etc, packages, furniture, etc.) to appropriate areas/personnel Perform light maintenance on custodial equipment, furniture, etc. (e.g. replace vacuum cleaner belts/bags, adjust squeegees on floor machine, replace feet on chairs/desks, change light bulbs, etc) Participate in seasonal activities including, but not limited to, snow removal, strip/wax floors, paint walls, move furniture. Check for and report any vandalism or damage to facility immediately to the Principal & Director of Maintenance & Operations Secure the building appropriately. (e.g. doors, lights, alarms, etc.) Perform other related duties as assigned by the
Principal or Director of Maintenance & Operations Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the District's Policy and Administration Procedures regarding classified employee evaluation.
Salary:
In accordance with the Negotiated Agreement between the Indian Springs School District #109 Board of Education and the Indian Springs School District #109 Custodian Council, West Suburban Teachers Union Local #571,
