Job Description
THE ROLE
O'Fallon Township High School District #203 is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to support safe, clean, and welcoming facilities for our students and staff. This position plays an essential role in maintaining a sanitary and orderly learning environment that supports daily instruction and school activities. The Custodian performs routine cleaning, light repairs, event setup, and building support tasks across assigned areas. The work is active and hands-on and requires reliability, initiative, attention to detail, and pride in maintaining high standards. This role works as part of the Facilities team under the direction of the Director of Facilities and contributes directly to the daily operation and overall presentation of District buildings and grounds.RESPONSIBILITIES
Your work will span five broad areas of facility care and support:Building Cleaning & Sanitation:
Cleaning classrooms, restrooms, offices, gyms, IMCs, multipurpose rooms, and common areas to maintain safe and sanitary conditionsEvent & Classroom Support:
Setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings, activities, and special eventsFacility Monitoring:
Inspecting assigned areas to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, or vandalismLight Maintenance & Repairs:
Performing minor repairs to fixtures, furniture, and equipment and assisting with interior and exterior painting as neededGeneral Support & Security:
Locking and unlocking buildings, moving furniture and supplies, assisting Maintenance and Grounds staff, snow removal at entryways, and responding to immediate safety or operational concerns A full list of position duties is available in the official job description, which will be provided during the interview process.KEY QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining clean and orderly facilities, works well independently and as part of a team, and understands the importance of providing a safe environment for students and staff.Required:
High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license Ability to operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Basic math skills Ability to read and comply with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) No criminal violations that would prohibit public school employmentPhysical:
Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting over 100 lbs. Standing, walking, bending, climbing, stooping, and kneeling Outdoor work in varying weather conditions Possible exposure to cleaning chemicals, equipment, and noise Some positions may include weekend or rotating shiftsCOMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$17.25/hr. (2024-2025), per the Service Workers CBA Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) defined benefit pension plan Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance Paid time off Full salary and benefit details are available in the collective bargaining agreement.HOW TO APPLY
