A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous custodial, housekeeping, or facilities cleaning experience preferred. A valid driver's license is preferred for positions requiring travel between buildings.
ABILITY TO
Perform physically demanding custodial duties. Safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools. Understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Prioritize work and complete assigned tasks independently. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and the public. Maintain a clean, safe, and secure learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, scrub, strip, wax, buff, and seal floors. Vacuum carpets and rugs. Clean, disinfect, and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, locker rooms, and other assigned areas. Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly. Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, walls, windows, glass, blinds, and other surfaces. Replenish restroom and custodial supplies. Operate floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, vacuums, and other custodial equipment. Set up and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings, activities, and special events. Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes as assigned. Perform emergency cleanup resulting from spills, accidents, illness, or vandalism. Pick up litter and maintain sidewalks, entrances, and other exterior areas surrounding assigned facilities. Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance, including snow and ice removal, as assigned. Lock and unlock buildings, gates, and doors, and assist with building security procedures. Report maintenance, safety, and security concerns promptly. Perform minor maintenance tasks appropriate to the position. Assist with receiving, moving, and distributing supplies and equipment. Maintain custodial equipment and storage areas in a clean and organized condition. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
