A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of detail cleaning and maintenance duties at Tecumseh High School. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Locks, unlocks doors, and turns lights on or off to open building or secure. Vacuums, dusts, sweeps, cleans glass, cleans chalkboards, changes light bulbs, wipes cabinets, removes trash, scrubs floors, wet mops, and overall cleans main offices, classrooms, computer rooms, libraries, speech rooms, restrooms, etc... Disinfects and cleans restrooms thoroughly including mirrors, urinals, sinks, toilets, floors, etc. and re-stocks soap, paper towels, feminine hygiene dispenser, etc. Set up chairs, tables, and other equipment in order to prepare gym, rooms, auditorium, etc. for programs, meeting, sporting events, dances, special events, etc. Cleans cafeteria including dust mopping, cleaning tables, running automatic scrubber, buffing, trash disposing, folding tables, etc. Washes and cleans entrance areas. Cleans and maintains work room and storage area. Checks, maintains, and cleans equipment to ensure proper running order. Maintains grounds. Performs other related essential duties as required. Physical Requirements Ability to operate a variety of machines, tools, and equipment including mops, brooms, plungers, dusters, scrubber, buffer, vacuum, blower, extractor, drills, wrenches, other hand tools, etc. Ability to safely handle and use cleaning materials, chemicals, and disinfectants. Ability to physically exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a varying amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects such as furniture, chairs, tables, bookcarts, books, papers, etc. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
