What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Job Duties include but not limited to: Laundry duties as needed Empties wastebaskets and other refuse containers and disposes of contents in appropriate manner Cleans seating and table surfaces as needed Sweep and mop daily Cleans glass surfaces, drinking fountains, sinks, bowls, etc., as assigned Cleans and sanitizes restroom areas as assigned. (typically every ½ hour) Moves furniture and/or equipment when assigned Moves and relocates supplies within building when assigned Closes and secures all windows and doors in assigned area Keep custodial storage areas clean, neat, and free from clutter and combustible materials Submits requests for supplies to appropriate supervisor in accordance with established practice Keeps issued equipment and supplies clean, neat and in useable working conditions Reports damaged, defective, or otherwise unusable equipment to appropriate supervisor in accordance with established practice Uses cleaning materials and equipment in accordance with safety standards Cleans assigned areas in accordance with procedures set forth in cleaning guides Maintains current MSDS knowledge of all cleaning materials in use Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with MSDS standards and school corporation policies and guidelines
