The District Custodial Services Director leads custodial operations across multiple facilities, ensuring clean, safe, and welcoming environments for members, staff, and guests. This leadership role oversees custodial staff, vendor relationships, safety initiatives, and facility appearance standards while supporting day-to-day operations and special events. This position is ideal for an experienced facilities or custodial leader who enjoys balancing hands-on operational work with team leadership, budgeting, safety compliance, and customer service. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining high facility standards. What You'll Do Leadership & Team Management Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and develop custodial staff and contracted service providers. Establish performance expectations and provide coaching, feedback, and accountability. Manage staffing levels, labor hours, and payroll expenses within budget guidelines. Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and service excellence. Custodial Operations Oversee daily cleaning operations and quality standards across assigned facilities. Ensure grounds, storage areas, and outdoor spaces remain clean, organized, and free of debris. Conduct routine inspections and audits to verify cleanliness and operational effectiveness. Coordinate custodial support for special events and facility activities as needed. Facility Support Partner with facilities teams to address operational needs and maintain building appearance. Serve as a manager on duty when assigned. Vendor & Contract Management Manage relationships with custodial contractors, vendors, and service providers. Monitor vendor performance and ensure work meets organizational standards. Coordinate contracted services and maintain compliance with established agreements. Safety & Risk Management Support facility safety initiatives through inspections, audits, training, and corrective action plans. Maintain documentation related to environmental safety, staff certifications, and compliance requirements. Serve as a resource for risk management and workplace safety. Respond to facility incidents, emergencies, and urgent operational issues when needed. Financial Management Develop and manage departmental budgets. Monitor expenses and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency while maintaining service quality. What a Typical Week Looks Like This role combines office work, facility inspections, staff supervision, vendor management, and hands-on operational support. Some days may involve coaching team members, reviewing budgets, conducting safety audits, or meeting with contractors. Other days may require assisting with facility projects, responding to operational issues, or supporting evening and weekend events. Because this position supports multiple facilities, travel between locations is a regular part of the job. Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Ability to respond to emergencies and urgent facility situations. Preferred Associate degree, technical training, or related education in facilities management, maintenance, custodial operations, or a related field. Experience managing budgets and operational expenses. Experience in multi-site facilities, maintenance, or custodial operations. Work Environment & Physical Requirements This is an active role that includes both office and field work.
