Janitorial Worker Job Description This role focuses on maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe warehouse environment through a variety of janitorial tasks. You will work on a fast-paced production floor, supporting daily operations by ensuring all areas remain clean, organized, and free of debris. Responsibilities Clean and maintain warehouse areas, including production floors, common spaces, and restrooms. Scrub, wash, and mop floors to keep surfaces clean and safe. Pick up trash throughout the facility and ensure proper disposal. Take out trash and recyclables to designated collection points. Perform basic inspection of areas to identify cleanliness or safety issues and address them promptly. Handle and move materials as needed while performing cleaning duties. Follow written and verbal directions accurately to complete assigned tasks. Work safely and consistently while standing, bending, twisting, squatting, and lifting throughout the shift. Support staging and production areas by keeping walkways, workstations, and dock areas clear of debris. Essential Skills At least 1+ year of recent experience in a janitorial role. Ability to lift 40-50 pounds on a constant basis as part of daily duties. Ability to lift 30-40 pounds as required for cleaning and material handling. Comfortable standing, bending, twisting, squatting, and lifting for the entire duration of the shift. Ability to read and understand directions in English. Demonstrated work tenure of at least 1 year at previous positions, unless there is a strong reason for leaving. Experience with janitorial work in a warehouse or production environment. Basic familiarity with cleaning, scrubbing, washing, mopping, and trash removal. Ability to perform basic inspection of work areas to ensure cleanliness and order. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a production or warehouse setting. Comfort working around industrial equipment and large fans. Reliability and consistency in attendance and punctuality. Ability to follow safety guidelines and use provided protective equipment. Willingness to occasionally work extended shifts of 10-12 hours when needed. Flexibility to occasionally work Saturdays when scheduled in advance. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large unionized production facility that is well lit and kept clean. The warehouse is not climate controlled, so it can become warm during summer months and cooler in winter, especially when dock doors are open. Large industrial fans are used throughout the facility to improve air circulation. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended days of 10-12 hours and some Saturdays, which are communicated in advance. The dress code requires long pants, tennis shoes, and a T-shirt. Safety glasses are provided and must be worn as part of the safety requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Romulus, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.85 - $16.85/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
