What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Position Description:
Maintains facilities in a sanitary and orderly condition.
MUST BE A CURRENT STUDENT AT ASBURY THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY.
Hours:
12-15 hours per week when school is in session; up to 40 hours per week during summer months.
Work Schedule:
Negotiable for summer months. Set schedule when school is in session, depending on specific position.
Essential Functions:
cleans all surfaces in hallways, lobbies, restrooms, classrooms, elevators, stairs, and in any other assigned areas. sweeps, mops, vacuums, and polishes all floors with appropriate equipment. washes walls, woodwork, and windows as necessary. removes all trash from within building replenishes restroom supplies as needed.
Other Responsibilities:
arranges tables and chairs, stage equipment, etc. as requested. strips and reapplies floor finish to tile floors. cleans carpets. prepares housing for incoming tenants. attends weekly safety meetings.
Financial Responsibility/Authority:
Will possess keys that access areas within campus buildings. Must keep assigned areas secure and maintain confidentiality.
Tools and Equipment:
Must use and maintain vacuum, wet vac, carpet extractor, floor machines, etc.
Education/Experience/Abilities:
basic knowledge of custodial skills and procedures. ability to prioritize job assignments. good organizational skills. ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. ability to perform medium duty manual labor. ability to use janitorial equipment. ability to use climb ladder and work from that position.
