Job Description

The Environmental Services Technician Level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS Technician will have contact with patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff. Responsible for ensuring timely room turns within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and patient experience.
Job Duties:
Responsible for following established 7-step cleaning methods in performing routine and specialized cleaning in assigned areas, ensuring respect, privacy, and comfort of patients, guests, and staff with an awareness of age, growth, development, cultural and spiritual differences. Clean and sanitize all surfaces, including but not limited to, windows, walls, drapes, fixtures, equipment, and doors. Operates and cleans equipment in a safe and effective manner. Returns all equipment to the designated area after each use. Follows safety procedures and reports incidents of malfunction. Dispose of hazardous waste according to policy and procedures. Collect dirty laundry from patient areas and dispose of following proper procedures. Provides prompt, courteous service to all internal and external customers. Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional and timely manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships. Responsible for completing and signing work schedules with little or no supervision and to adhere to the department policies and procedures. Removes all trash, garbage, and cardboard boxes and properly disposes of them in the assigned dumpster. Assist team members in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service and actively support team development. Adheres to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety. Maintains cleaning cart(s), supplies and equipment evidence by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion. Follows all infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Required:
Basic computer skills required (email, rounding tools, work-order systems)
Preferred:
One year in Environmental Services; healthcare experience preferred High School Diploma or GED preferred Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) and/or other trainer designation preferred
Work Schedule:
