POSITION
Custodian
JOB GOAL
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the building. This position involves performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks, supporting custodial operations, and ensuring the facilities are well-kept. This position reports to the Foreman, Head Custodian, and Custodial Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic knowledge of industrial cleaning methods and safety practices. Familiarity with custodial equipment and supplies. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Good interpersonal skills for maintaining positive relationships with staff and students. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, push, pull, climb, and balance. Ability to frequently walk, bend, kneel, and use fine motor skills for detailed cleaning. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, with some exposure to noise and equipment hazards.
REPORTS TO
Foreman, Head Custodian, and Custodial Supervisor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Cleaning Tasks:
Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, and common areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and remove trash from assigned areas. Maintain restrooms in a sanitary condition and restock supplies as needed.
Equipment and Systems Maintenance:
Assist in operating and maintaining HVAC, life safety, and lighting systems. Report any maintenance issues to the Head Custodian. Help with minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment and furniture.
Building Security and Maintenance:
Ensure the security of the building by locking and unlocking doors as assigned. Assist with snow removal and setup/takedown for school activities as required.
Support and Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with the custodial team to ensure cleanliness and efficiency. Participate in training sessions to enhance knowledge of cleaning methods and safety protocols.
Emergency Response:
Provide emergency cleanup services as needed. Be available to respond to custodial needs during assigned shifts.
Work Environment:
The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with responsibilities during regular school hours and possibly during events.
Additional Responsibilities:
Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff. Promote a positive image of the District. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Supervisor. This position requires a reliable individual committed to providing a clean and safe environment for students and staff. SUMMER SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
All Custodians are required to work 6:00am-2:00pm starting the Monday after the school year ends.
