SKILLS AND ABILITY
To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
Instruction Interpretation:
Ability to read and interpret instructions, work requests, and safety labels on chemical supplies.
Communication:
Capacity to communicate clearly and concisely with staff, students, and visitors.
Autonomy & Prioritization:
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously.
Compliance Awareness:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies.
Professional Reliability:
Maintain a good prior work record regarding performance, congeniality, honesty, and dependability.
Technical Proficiency:
Capability to operate various custodial and grounds maintenance equipment, such as buffers, vacuums, and lawnmowers.
Safety Adherence:
Strict adherence to safety rules and procedures, including the proper use of protective equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Execute various custodial tasks, including sanitizing, scrubbing, waxing, buffing, and dusting furniture and equipment to maintain a clean and safe environment. Vacuum and shampoo carpets. Wash windows, mirrors, glass, and other surfaces. Change light bulbs as needed, both indoors and outdoors. Clean furniture, equipment, sills, ledges, heating grills, ventilation units, walls, ceilings, stairs, and boilers. Sweep or shovel snow, apply sand and salt, and chip ice from exterior walks and steps. Empty wastebaskets and trash receptacles in offices, classrooms, lounges, kitchens, gymnasiums, corridors, and bathrooms, and dispose of rubbish properly. Arrange rooms as required for various activities. Inspect both the interior and exterior of the building for vandalism and report any issues to the senior custodian. Notify the senior custodian of emergencies and assist in overtime work as necessary. Adhere to all safety protocols. Work with the senior custodian to regulate the HVAC system for optimal indoor temperatures. Open and lock exit doors, check panic hardware and door closers, and report malfunctions. Perform landscaping tasks such as cutting grass, trimming, fertilizing, weeding, and picking up litter. Handle minor building and equipment repairs, including minor painting and touch-ups. Oil and lubricate equipment and change filters as necessary. Conduct checks on fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, fire/smoke alarms, deluge showers, and eyewash stations. Recommend the reordering of supplies to the senior custodian. Complete any required paperwork. Work collaboratively with all building personnel, visitors, co-workers, and supervisors. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Stamina:
Required to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift.
Movement & Flexibility:
Frequently required to bend, sit, move, and work in restricted spaces, including crawling or climbing at heights.
Lifting:
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment.
Equipment Operation:
Must be able to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts, and district vehicles.
Environmental Exposure:
Occasionally works in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, or toxic/caustic chemicals.
Hazardous Materials:
Potential exposure to blood or other infectious materials; wearing protective equipment like latex gloves is required per OSHA regulations.
Noise Levels:
Noise levels may be high when operating power equipment.
REPORTS TO
Senior Building Custodians and/or Shift Foreperson. The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Framingham Custodial Services (Unit C) Contract.
