A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Essential functions and responsibilities: Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies Empties trash receptacles, hazard bins into a hazard barrel, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal Ensure common areas such as break rooms, lobbies, and kitchenettes are cleaned and stocked Maintain breakroom Follow instructions about chemical use and safety hazards in the workplace Wash and buff floors including the manufacturing facility Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored safely and orderly Maintain, submit a purchase requisition, and restock cleaning materials and supplies Make note of the need for equipment repair Report any potential food safety, quality or food defense concerns to the plant manager or quality personnel Maintain product safety, legality, regulatory compliance, and quality systems Follow all documented G ood M anufacturing P ractices Must follow all company policies and procedures Essential skills and experience: Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects Ability to understand written and verbal instructions Other duties as required Success factors/job competencies: Proficient at time management Ability to work with little supervision Good attitude Physical demands and work environment: Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk, which require following basic safety precautions. Employee may also be required to wear safety glasses and/or safety gloves. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May be exposed to high noise levels that required hearing protection.
