Description Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is hiring a Custodian! The Custodian will ensure a pleasant and safe experience for guests and employees by maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities, conscientiously practicing the Gardens' Community Agreements, and supporting Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility principles. They will work with indirect supervision, performing daily, event-related, and seasonal tasks. This is a Full-time (40 hours per week), Seasonal (through January 2, 2027) position. $20.00 - 22.00 hourly, non-exempt Overtime may be available and/or required. Participates in a rotating schedule that ensures proper coverage of 7-day/week operations, as well as after-hours events. Nights and at least one weekend day are required. Some flexibility in scheduling is available.
Primary Functions:
Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms using established practices and procedures. Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; wash accessible interior and exterior windows; clean blinds; wash walls and equipment; collect recycling materials. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops. Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events. Maintain radio communication with Facilities and other internal teams. Assist with maintaining organization and inventory control system.
Lock and unlock assigned buildings:
secure building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights. Perform seasonal cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in the full range of climatic conditions Pounds employee is required to lift: 50 lbs Pounds employee is required to carry: 25 lbs Usual distance carried: up one flight of stairs or out to an outdoor venue Frequent to continual standing and walking Frequent repetitive motion tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting) Ability to work safely from a ladder. Requirements Keen attention to detail while holding a high standard of quality. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, co-workers, and supervisors. Ability to work in a team environment, being aware of and accepting of teammate's strengths and weaknesses. Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain hand tools used for cleaning and general maintenance such as vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees. Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions regarding use of cleaning products. Ability to switch tasks with short notice and respond positively to emergency/urgent situations. Ability to follow directions, perform basic calculations, proficient in reading, writing, and organizing. Basic computer literacy and use of programs such as email and schedules.
