A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
- JOB SUMMARY
- Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors and dock, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk and dock.
- JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- + Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
+ Gather and empty trash.
+ Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
+ Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
+ Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
+ Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
+ Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.
+ Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
+ Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
+ Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
+ Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
+ Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
+ Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
+ Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
+ Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
+ Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
+ Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- + High school education, GED or equivalent + Ability to follow instruction and eagerness to complete a task on a timely basis as well as personal integrity + Basic communication skills
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- + Work requires moderate muscular exertion and/or physical strain such as frequently climbing or, recurring bending, lifting, or lowering of items weight up to 50 pounds. + Requires lifting/lowering, pushing, or pulling of various items of varying weight.
