What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Contract Retirement Plan Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains communication with Head Custodian and follows Chain of Command. Perform regular custodial duties in assigned areas of building. Assists in removing snow from assigned entryways. Restocks supplies in assigned areas and provides head custodian with inventory usage and data. Maintains custodial equipment in good working condition. Assists visiting public, utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment. Project a positive image of the school district while engaging with the public, students and staff in a respectful, proper and helpful manner. Ensure outside doors and windows are locked for security during and after each day. Performs ongoing preventative maintenance of unit ventilators, such as filter changes, cleaning, etc. Performs replacement of burned-out lighting, minor plumbing repairs, replacement of ceiling tiles, and other items in the assigned area. Performs restorative cleaning such as carpet extraction, stripping and refinishing tiled floors, cleaning and moving furniture, full restroom cleaning and disinfecting. And all other duties assigned by the supervisor for Custodial Services / Director for Operations. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
