PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Custodian position is responsible for keeping the interior and exterior of the YWCA building clean and in safe condition. The incumbent in this role may be requested to set up for special events or assist with moving furniture. Additionally, the Custodian may be requested to assist in keeping sidewalks and walkways clean and safe during inclement weather.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks. Skills and knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, general repair and chemical usage and safety. Must be able to safely lift 60 pounds. Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing throughout the day. Must have adequate transportation and valid driver's license to travel to office locations. Able to perform basic skills on the computer and learn software that may be relevant to the position. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures proper cleaning via chemical usage and safety procedures Vacuums as necessary Empties trash and recycling, and replaces liners as needed Practices proper waste management techniques by placing hazardous waste in proper receptacles and storage area Cleans interior building windows, door windows, etc. as necessary Informs supervision when cleaning supplies are in need of restocking Keeps all paper towels, toilet seat covers, toilet paper and facial tissue stocked and available Cleans work areas thoroughly each day at the end of the shift Works outdoors to ensure safety (shovel walkways, salt icy walkways, rake leaves or other grounds functions) Attends all team and staff meetings, participates in collective team and agency efforts, and complies with all YWCA Kalamazoo policies and practices. Remains flexible and manages changing priorities on a continuing basis. Knows and adheres to Association policies, procedures, and practices. Safeguards confidential information gained because of the position. Complies with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse. As a YWCA employee, projects a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community. Works cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff, and volunteers. Other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include : Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
