A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
Perform maintenance, custodial and housekeeping tasks at the Red Cedar Assisted Living facility and maintain the community in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Perform all tasks to assure that the community reflects high quality appearance and in good condition for residents and visitors.
Education Requirements and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) is required. One to three years' prior housekeeping, custodial and/or maintenance experience. Boiler's license.

Must be flexible and able to work within a diverse team. Exemplary time management and organizational skills. Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe safety sensitive positions.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, or as directed by supervisor. Perform miscellaneous repairs, e.g. plunging toilets, change light bulbs. Make preventative maintenance inspections per schedule or as directed by supervisor. Complete necessary work for unit turnovers, e.g. move appliances, replace, or repair locks, window screens, cleaning etc. Shampoo carpets as needed. Perform all repair and maintenance work to comply with code standards. Shovel walkways and paths as needed. Perform occasional ground maintenance. Provide supervisor with ongoing communication, documentation and reporting of mechanical/building problems. Maintain the maintenance shop and mechanical rooms in a clean, safe, orderly, and professional manner. Assist management/office staff with miscellaneous tasks as needed. Clean all common areas and rooms by sweeping vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing. Vacuum the dining room and wipe tables and chairs after use during daytime shift. Clean and polish all entryway and lobby glass, doors, and furniture; vacuum and mop entryway floor as needed; dust drapes and blinds as needed. Perform and assist in other assignments as needed and directed by the Assisted Living Director.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, balancing, reaching, handling, twisting/turning carrying, climbing, pulling, pushing, bending, crouching, crawling and stooping movements. Lifting 75 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Possible hazardous exposure to airborne, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and cleaning solvents. PPE use required as conditions and policy warrant. Subject to internal and external working conditions including adverse weather conditions, exposure to chemicals, and illnesses.
