A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

This individual will keep our school clean and well maintained for students, staff, and guests. The work helps to preserve a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. This full-time position during the school year and includes four to six weeks off during the summer and additional time off during school breaks and holiday periods. Employment is managed by the parish.
Responsibilities:
Building Focus Completing assigned cleaning procedures and schedule, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, operating floor machines, and cleaning and sanitizing offices and classrooms as needed. Washing windows, mirrors, and glass doors. Restocking supplies in janitor closets, bathrooms, and main storage areas. Gathering and dumping trash and recycling. Assisting with room set-ups prior to meetings or events, including tables, chairs, and other required items. Cleaning up after events as well. Notifying supervisor when supplies are low or equipment is in need of repair. Maintaining elevator, elevator landings, hallways, and cafeteria. Maintaining safety protocols and utilizing required safety gear including gloves, googles, wet floor signs, etc. Grounds Focus Assisting with snow removal during the school day, including shoveling of school sidewalks, and salting of sidewalks and main school lot, if needed. Assisting with lawncare, including flower and vegetable gardens, and general upkeep of area around the school. Maintaining the playground area, including wood chips, to provide a safe environment for students. Ensuring equipment is in good operating condition and plan for yearly maintenance.
