A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Cleans, scrubs, strips, seals, waxes, buffs, vacuums or sweeps floors, stairs, classrooms, gyms, locker rooms, libraries, offices, commons, hallways, restrooms and other designated areas for both daily needs and special events. Cleans and sanitizes all spaces including restrooms, showers, and locker rooms. Washes windows and mirrors. Responds to emergency cleanup situations. Take out trash and cardboard in the entire building. Performs grounds upkeep by picking up trash daily and after events and keeping entrances clean and free of obstruction, as needed. Setup and cleanup of breakfast and lunch. Assist Food Service with washing kitchen mats. Keeps the custodial rooms clean and well maintained. Unloads school supplies and equipment. Restocks shelves with cleaning supplies. Moves furniture and equipment as necessary. Assists with snow removal at entrances, applies ice melting materials and keeps entrances clean and free of obstruction, as needed. Maintains building security by resetting nuisance fire alarms, locks and unlocks buildings, secures buildings, and performs other security tasks as needed. Reports items that are in need of repair. Assists with event setup and clean up. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
