What they do
A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

CUSTODIAN QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education development certificate (GED), required. Valid MN driver's license. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force. Experience with personal computers and software and the ability to learn district systems. Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building and boiler maintenance and building automation systems. Demonstrated customer and human relations skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO
Lead CustodianJOB GOALS
To maintain the physical school facility in a condition of operating excellence, operating efficiency, cleanliness, and safety so that full educational use of the facility may be made at all times.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Keeps the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat, clean, and safe. Follows district procedures to make sure that floors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, furniture, and equipment are cleaned and maintained per district standards. Moves furniture and/or equipment within building(s) for various activities and as directed by the supervisor. Ensures that all appropriate measures for building security are followed and appropriate measures are used to make sure windows and doors are appropriately secured. Submits and completes online work requests in a complete and timely manner. Complies with health and safety codes, to include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to ensure safe and healthy working conditions. Promptly report all safety concerns to the Lead Custodian. Completes assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
