Environmental Services Manager Job Summary/Objective:
The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining hospital facilities in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, directly impacting patient care and staff safety. This position requires dedication, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic to ensure a safe and suitable environment for all. Responsibilities include a variety of housekeeping and laundry duties such as dusting, disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, washing and folding laundry, and handling refuse. This position may also assist in arranging furniture and other related tasks.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
Clean and disinfect hospital furniture, fixtures, and equipment to ensure a sanitary environment, crucial for patient health and safety. Perform floor care, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing, to ensure a clean and safe walking environment. Collect, transport, and dispose of waste and recycling materials appropriately, contributing to a hygienic and organized facility. Dust and polish surfaces to maintain cleanliness and appearance. Rearrange and move furniture or equipment as needed for cleaning or facility needs. Perform laundry tasks, including washing, drying, folding, and inspecting articles for quality. Handle and store cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines. Replenish cleaning supplies and report inventory needs to the supervisor. Adhere to infection control standards and hospital policies during all cleaning and sanitizing tasks, playing a vital role in preventing the spread of infections. Assist with special cleaning projects or assignments as directed by the supervisor. Other duties as assigned. Skills /
Abilities:
Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and materials. Familiarity with safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals. Strong attention to detail and time management skills. Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift and move objects, and operate cleaning equipment. Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff and patients respectfully.
Education, Certificates, and License:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Experience:
Prior housekeeping or laundry experience in healthcare preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting:
Frequently lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
Mobility:
Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout shifts.
Posture:
Regular use of equipment such as mops, brooms, and vacuum cleaners.
Environmental Exposure:
Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying indoor temperatures.
