A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Our Custodians provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of facilities. This is accomplished through performing daily and non-routine cleaning of campus buildings and facilities, moving furniture, and assisting with set ups for events on campus. The primary responsibility is for the effective use of proper methods, use chemicals and materials in maintaining cleanliness, appearance, and sanitation. The full-time Custodian typically works 40 hours a week and must work closely with the supervisor, staff, and administration of the College. This shift is scheduled Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Requirements Essential Functions:
The statements below are intended to describe the principal duties of the person or persons assigned to this job. Dust mops, sweeps, wet mops, spray-buffs, strips and refinishes floors Vacuums, spot cleans, shampoos carpeting Scrubs and cleans restroom fixtures and keeps restrooms supplied with soap and paper supplies Dusts, cleans, washes walls, doors, windows, woodwork and other above floor surfaces Removes trash from receptacles Sets up rooms for conferences, lectures, and special events Moves furniture Notifies immediate supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement Performs related work as required and instructed Assists with set up of tables and chairs for events Lock up college facilities Performs deep cleaning activities as necessary May assist with painting during breaks
Job Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license.
Skills:
Ability to adhere to departmental operating and safety procedures Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment Ability to operate campus vehicle Ability to follow simple oral and written instruction in the conduct of the job Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, and customers Ability work overtime when required
