Share Share Email Post Share Job Summary The Custodian keeps Bart's Electric offices, shops, warehouse, and common areas clean, safe, and well maintained so employees and visitors have a professional, healthy environment to work in. This role works independently across the facility and has routine access to occupied offices and work areas, so dependability, discretion, and a steady eye for detail matter as much as the cleaning itself. Core Accountability The Custodian is accountable for the consistent cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep of assigned company facilities; for following established cleaning schedules, safety procedures, and chemical-handling requirements; and for promptly reporting maintenance or safety concerns. Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans and sanitizes offices, conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms, and other common areas on an established schedule.
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and spot-cleans floors, carpets, and entryways.
- Empties trash and recycling containers and takes waste to designated disposal areas.
- Restocks restroom and break room supplies, including paper products, soap, and sanitizer.
- Cleans windows, doors, glass, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces.
- Performs general cleaning in shop and warehouse areas as assigned, keeping walkways and exits clear.
- Sets up and breaks down rooms for meetings, trainings, and company events.
- Monitors cleaning supply inventory and notifies the supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
- Operates and performs basic upkeep on cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, and carts.
- Uses and stores cleaning chemicals safely in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and company safety procedures.
- Identifies and reports maintenance issues, spills, damage, and safety hazards promptly.
- Secures buildings, locks doors, and turns off lights and equipment at the end of shifts as directed.
- Performs exterior work including trash pickup, weed pulling, sidewalk sweeping and clearing, and salt application during winter months.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. Key Performance Indicators
- Cleanliness standards. Maintains assigned areas to company cleanliness standards, with few complaints or re-cleaning requests.
- Schedule completion. Completes daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks on schedule.
- Supply management. Keeps restrooms and break rooms fully stocked, with no supply outages.
- Safety compliance. Follows chemical handling, PPE, and safety procedures with no preventable incidents.
- Issue reporting. Reports maintenance issues and hazards promptly so they can be corrected quickly.
- Reliability. Maintains good attendance and responds reliably to cleaning requests during the shift.
- Discretion. Handles access to offices and work areas appropriately and keeps what is seen there confidential. Required Skills and Abilities
- Reliable, dependable, and trustworthy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow a cleaning schedule.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, equipment, and chemicals, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to read and follow product labels, Safety Data Sheets, and written instructions.
- Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean workplace.
- Courteous and respectful when working around employees and visitors.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of documents and information seen while cleaning offices.
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance. Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred. Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to push and pull cleaning carts, equipment, and trash containers.
- Ability to climb step stools and ladders as needed.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and dust. Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exterior work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and winter precipitation.
