Job Summary The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of church and parish facilities. This position supports the mission of the parish by ensuring that worship spaces, offices, classrooms, and common areas are clean, orderly, and welcoming for parishioners, staff, and visitors.
Job Responsibilities Clean and maintain church buildings, parish hall, offices, classrooms, restrooms, and common areas
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize floors, furniture, and surfaces
Empty trash and recycling containers and restock supplies
Set up and arrange tables, chairs, and equipment for Masses, meetings, funerals, weddings, and parish events
Perform routine inspections to identify maintenance or safety concerns
Assist with light maintenance duties and minor repairs as needed
Maintain outdoor walkways and entrances, including snow removal and salting when necessary
Secure buildings by locking doors and monitoring parish property
Follow safety procedures and proper use of cleaning products and equipment
Job Requirements Custodial or cleaning experience preferred
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning supplies safely
Dependable, organized, and self-motivated
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Respectful and professional interaction with parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate conduct in a church environment
