PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Janitor/Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for Club members, staff, and visitors at the Starkville location. This role is essential in supporting a welcoming space where youth can learn, grow, and thrive.

KEY ROLES

(ESSENTIAL

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

) Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, gym areas, and common spaces. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax floors as needed. Empty trash and recycling daily. Clean and restock restrooms with necessary supplies. Disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain a healthy environment. Perform routine building maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, basic repairs, etc.). Report maintenance or safety issues to supervisors promptly. Follow all safety, sanitation, and organizational procedures. Set up and break down rooms for programs or events as needed. Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment in proper working order.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal:

Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guideline/instructions; instruct; advise/counsel.

External:

Maintains contact with Board volunteers, community contacts, Club members, families and the general public to give and obtain information, either in response to inquiries or as instructed by supervisor.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, bending, lifting, and walking for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 40-50 pounds. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently. Commitment to maintaining a safe environment for children.

Preferred/helpful:

Prior janitorial or custodial experience. Experience working in schools, nonprofits, or youth facilities. Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and supplies.
